Following an office visit, one of our providers may recommend a specialist consultation to assist in the management of one of your medical conditions.
Our practice utilizes many specialist physicians in each specialty on a regular basis. Several of these physicians are located here in our building on Red Bank Road; others are located nearby within the community. We work closely with physicians to whom we refer, and we have long-standing professional relationships with many specialty healthcare providers. We often will recommend a specialist for you based on the nature of your particular medical problem and our knowledge of the specialist’s area of expertise. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing if the specialist we refer you to is currently a participating provider in your managed care plan. It is absolutely essential that you confirm with your own managed care company that the specialist we refer you to is a provider on your plan. If the specialist we selected is not a provider, you can either choose to see that physician as an out-of-network provider or you can fax us a current list of specialist providers that are part of your plan, and we will select a different specialist for you.
If your managed care plan requires a referral to your specific insurance company, you must notify our office of this requirement. We will handle the paperwork and obtain prior approval for specialist referrals for patients with managed care plans that require this.
When we refer you to a specialist, we will facilitate the coordination of your care. We will send a letter to the specialist detailing the reason for the consultation and outlining the important facts of your medical history. We will also handle sending all pertinent medical records and test results.
